YesSafe

Tell someone where you are going, without making it a thing.

One tap before you set off. If you do not check in when you said you would, the friends you chose are told — and they can see what you wrote down before you left.

How it works

Four taps, total, on the night you use it.

1
Add one person Someone you would ring at 3am. You put in their email, or send them a link on WhatsApp. They do not need the app, an account, or a password.
2
Tap what you are doing Walking home. In a car. On a date. Meeting someone new. It sets a time to expect you back — you can change it.
3
Say it, or photograph it The plate, the name, the address, the face. One tap and it is saved. Nothing to type while you are walking.
4
Check in, or do not If your time runs out we ask you first. Only if you do not answer do we tell your friends — and then they can read everything you logged.

If something is wrong now

There is one red button and it needs one press.

!
Tell them now Sends immediately — no menu, no confirming, no grading how frightened you are first. Your location goes with it. Afterwards you can make it an emergency, or say you are fine. On the emergency level it also puts the right number for the country you are in under your thumb.

What we can and cannot see

Worth reading, because most apps are vague about this and it is the whole question.

We cannot read a word of it

Everything you write, say or photograph is locked on your phone before it reaches us, with a key that never leaves it. We can see that an entry exists and when you said you would be back — the alarm has to work when you cannot work it. We cannot see what any of it says. Neither can anyone else except the friends you chose.

Six months, then it is gone

Not archived, not recoverable, by anyone including us. Every entry shows its own deletion date.

Nobody can wipe your record — not even from your own phone

If you delete something it disappears from your phone straight away and is destroyed seven days later. Nothing can make that happen sooner, so someone who picks up your phone cannot get rid of what you wrote about them. Your friends are told when a record is deleted.

It is free, and the parts that cost nothing stay free

The safety information is free forever. Keeping recordings and photos costs us money to store, so that is what we would ever charge for — and we will say so plainly before we do.

Who it is for

Written for women who go out, travel, date, and would rather not make a production of any of it.

You do not have to be frightened to use it

Most of what this does is ordinary: a note of the car you got into, a voice note with a name in it, a time you said you would be back. It is for the ninety-nine nights nothing happens, so that the hundredth one is not the first time anybody knows where you were.

An iPhone app is in testing. The web version does the same things, and your friends will always be able to open their part without installing anything.
